Born in 1981, Marie Jo is the stylish, younger sister company of Prima Donna, one of the world’s most respected and renowned lingerie manufacturers.
Marie Jo, originally Marie Jolie, houses a design team in Finland dedicated to creating beautifully detailed, expertly engineered pieces. New designs are tested by a panel of women of all body shapes and cup sizes to ensure only the best fitting bras are manufactured. The Marie Jo design team caters to women with high standards and uses only the finest European fabrics and hand-selected materials. Marie Jo believes no machine can trump the human eye; each item receives 25-30 minutes of manual quality assurance before leaving the warehouse.
Whether it’s classic basics and laces, pops of color and fun detailing or irreplaceable sports pieces, Marie Jo consistently provides lingerie to fit the unique needs of today’s woman.
1981- Prima Donna began its fashion line, Marie Jolie. The line emerged with expertly designed pieces while creating a style and fit second to none.
1982- Marie Jo’s first bra and panty set was created in a light, elegant, transparent design, Tulle.
1984- Marie Jo’s innovative design team debuted its first embroidered collection, Amaryllis.
1985- True lingerie pioneers, Marie Jo began using elastic velvet for its Madonna collection, designing Dessous-dessus, (or “inner wear as outerwear”), before the term even existed.
1987-Toying with matte and shiny contrasting, the Damasco collection was created.
1988- A predecessor to their wildly successful Marie Jo L’Aventure line, the Ballet collection was created. Beautiful opaque fabrics and strong graphic prints secured Marie Jo’s place as a company far ahead of fashion curve.
1989- A luxurious mix of elastic lace and glossy prints, Glamour was released, proving to be a truly unforgettable collection.
1990-Marie Jo once again meets the needs of modern women with pret-a-porter, or “ready to wear” pieces in its Vogue collection, full of light, airy, compact pieces.
1992- Molded cups and luxurious outerwear are welcomed into Marie Jo’s repertoire.
1993- The Glamour collection receives extra attention, adding lace with matte and shiny detailing to its already popular design.
1994-Marie Jo introduces Cocktail, boasting pieces with elegant draping and Venise, a collection of colorful elastic lace and satin prints.
1995- Seamless cups are introduced to cater to the nineties’ minimalist trend with Istanbul.
1996-Marie Jo’s most timeless collection, Avero, adds delicate feminine details to a classic silhouette.
1997- Louvre, a bold, arabesque inspired collection is released.
1998- Alister, a mix of elastic plisse’ and Swiss guipure lace embroidery
1999-An eastern influence weaves itself through the Peking collection, adding a fresh splash to Marie Jo’s lineup.
2000- Vintage styles are recreated with new technology and rich materials. Georgia shows off this new motif.
2001- Jaipur is presented.
2002- The first Marie Jo Boutique is opened in Chalon-sur-Saône, France.
2003- Umbria and Lusanne are debuted.
2004-Marie Jo’s daring side shows through in Lisboa, Praha and Valluris.
2005- Marie Jo celebrates more success with the Avero Pearly Pink and the serene, seductive Margot and Ines collections.
2006- New life is breathed into the Marie Jo brand, as the logo is revitalized and the Gisele and Maxima collections show off classic sensibility and sexy embellishments.
2007 and Beyond- Marie Jo remains the front runner in the world of stylish fine lingerie, a line that continues to grow and evolve. In recent years, Prima Donna/Marie Jo bought Andre Sarda as its new fashion line and even partnered with Intimacy boutiques to open its first marker stores in the Unites States. Intimacy is now in 14 locations and counting!
